The founder the luxury brand Off-White, Virgil Abloh and artistic director of Louis Vuitton men’s wear passed away due to cancer at 41 years old. After selling his luxury brand to Louis Vuitton and joining the same in 2018 had his first show in June of the same year began an exciting chapter in fashion history, by bringing streetwear into the luxury fashion industry!
In a statement posted to his Instagram, Virgil’s family wrote: “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Grey Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh, and numerous dear friends and colleagues.”
Virgil privately fought a rare and aggressive type of cancer (cardiac angiosarcoma) for two years, after being diagnosed in 2019, undergoing various treatments while running several companies. Louis Vuitton paid tribute to the creative genius by presenting his Spring/Summer 2022 Collection, on Nov 30th in Miami.
“We are all shocked by this terrible news. Virgil was not only a genius designer and a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family joins me in this moment of great sorrow and we are all thinking of his loved ones on the passing of their husband, father, brother, son and friend.” CEO Bernard Arnault of Louis Vuitton said in a statement.
